The Director General, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu has said, the agency under his leadership is transforming Nigeria’s industrial landscape through its bold vision to fuel innovation for a sustainable future. “Under my watch, NASENI is commercialising its resources, making them available in the market to end users, and promoting knowledge-based entrepreneurship
“We are not out to compete with the private sector. Instead, we are here as partners and enablers, helping with everything from design to testing, or helping companies in scaling-up production capacity and seeking out new markets,” Halilu said.
NASENI has unveiled various technological products, including solar irrigation systems, electric vehicles, and laptop and smartphone technologies, aimed at creating jobs and reducing import bills. The agency is also promoting digital technologies, additive manufacturing, and working on projects like electronic voting solutions and smart prepaid meters.
Halilu pledged to keep the public updated on NASENI’s progress, focusing on scaling-up local-content sourcing, strengthening domestic technical and production capacities, and driving technological advancement through R&D.
According to recent statistics, Nigeria’s investment in science and technology has led to significant growth, contributing 10-15% to GDP. However, compared to developed nations, Nigeria still lags behind. NASENI is determined to drive Nigeria’s economic transformation through science, technology, and innovations, leading the country toward industrialization.
QUOTE: As the only purpose-built agency of the Federal Government in Nigeria with a technology transfer mandate, NASENI will always focus on progressively scaling-up local-content sourcing, and strengthening domestic technical and production capacities.” – Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu*
