The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police to launch a thorough investigation into an incident involving musician K1 De Ultimate and domestic airline ValueJet.
The incident occurred on August 5, 2025, during a scheduled ValueJet flight VK201, where K1 De Ultimate allegedly violated Nigeria Civil Aviation regulations.
The NCAA emphasised the importance of upholding aviation safety standards and ensuring accountability, regardless of the parties involved.
“The NCAA reiterates its commitment to ensuring that no individual, regardless of their status or public image, undermines the integrity of our aviation industry,” said Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.
The authority has called for a comprehensive criminal investigation and the initiation of appropriate prosecution in accordance with the provisions of the Nigeria Civil Aviation regulations (Nig. CARs) 2023 and all other applicable laws.
The Director General of Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najomo, has also issued an advisory to the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), urging the immediate consideration and institution of a No-Fly List for K1 De Ultimate on any commercial flight, pending the outcome of official investigations, NCAA statements said.
This advisory aligns with global aviation standards prioritizing passenger, crew, and airline operation safety. The NCAA will provide further updates as investigations progress. The petition to the Attorney-General and Inspector-General of Police highlights the NCAA’s commitment to maintaining aviation industry integrity and enforcing standard operational procedures.
According to Nigerian law, the Attorney-General has constitutional powers to initiate and prosecute criminal cases, while the Inspector-General of Police oversees investigations and law enforcement. The NCAA’s petition marks a significant step in ensuring accountability for actions that compromise aviation safety.
