The National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) has joined the global community in observing World Population Day, emphasizing the need for inclusive policies and practices that recognize the dignity and worth of every individual.
In a statement signed by Acting President Mrs. Geraldine Etuk, NCWS highlighted the importance of accurate data collection, access to healthcare and education, gender equality, and empowerment of women and girls.
“As we reflect on this year’s theme, ‘Leave no one behind, count everyone,’ we are reminded of the need to commit to inclusive policies and practices that recognize and address the needs of all people, particularly those who are often marginalized or overlooked,” Etuk said.
NCWS urged stakeholders to invest in robust data systems, ensure access to quality healthcare and education, and empower women and girls to build resilient communities.
The organization also emphasized the need to address the needs of vulnerable populations, including refugees, migrants, and those living in conflict-affected areas, and to integrate population management strategies with efforts to mitigate climate change.
“Let us work together to create a world where every person is valued, their rights protected, and their potential realized,” Etuk said. “By doing so, we can build a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable future for all.”
