NERC Commends Power Sector Communications Team, Urges Stronger Collaboration

By SUNDAY ABAH, Abuja

The Vice Chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Mr Musiliu Oseni, has lauded the Power Sector Communications Team (PSCT) for its critical role in shaping public discourse and fostering transparency in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).

According to a statement made available newsmen, Oseni urged the team to strengthen its strategic initiatives and deepen inter-agency collaboration to better serve the industry and its stakeholders.

Mr Oseni’s commendation came during the PSCT’s monthly meeting held Wednesday at the NERC headquarters in Abuja.

Represented by the commission’s Head of Corporate Communication, Mrs Hafsat Mustafa, the Vice-Chairman emphasised the importance of evolving communication approaches to keep pace with sector developments and public expectations.

“The PSCT has been instrumental in advancing coherent and coordinated communication across the power sector. However, to meet the growing demands of our stakeholders, we must be more intentional in our initiatives and foster greater synergy among member agencies,” he said.

He highlighted the need for consistent and proactive communication efforts that not only inform the public but also build trust and accountability in the sector’s reform process.

Responding on behalf of the PSCT, Ms Magdalene Abang, Coordinator of the Power Sector Communications Team and Media Team Lead at FGN Power Company, reaffirmed the group’s dedication to strengthening collaborative efforts and delivering more impactful communication.

“We recognise the importance of unified messaging in the power sector. PSCT remains committed to enhancing cross-agency cooperation and driving strategic public engagement that supports sector-wide reforms,” Abang stated.

The meeting also featured updates from various agencies and discussions on improving communication strategies and stakeholder engagement. Members reiterated their commitment to sustaining a cohesive communication front that effectively conveys the progress and challenges of Nigeria’s power sector.

The PSCT continues to serve as a collaborative platform for media and communications professionals from key power sector agencies, working together to ensure transparent, consistent, and constructive engagement with the public.
