The new Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Oliver Tersoo Agundu, has emphasised the importance of cooperation and collaboration among stakeholders for credible electoral outcomes.
In a recent meeting with political party chairmen, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), the Congress of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP), and other stakeholders, Dr. Agundu stressed the need for support to ensure better elections.
The meeting, which took place in Lokoja, was attended by representatives from various political parties, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The SDP was represented by its State Chairman, Hon. Moses Oricha Peters, and State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ochedi Shaibu Udale.
According to Dr. Agundu, the engagement aimed to intimate stakeholders of the commission’s schedule of activities, particularly the upcoming Okura Constituency by-election slated for August 16, 2025.
“We need the cooperation and collaboration of all stakeholders to ensure credible and acceptable electoral outcomes,” Dr. Agundu stated.
Comrade Ochedi Shaibu Udale, State Publicity Secretary of the SDP, was present at the meeting, underscoring the party’s commitment to working with the electoral commission.
The meeting demonstrates the commission’s efforts to build relationships with stakeholders ahead of the by-election.
The upcoming by-election is expected to be closely contested, and the REC’s emphasis on cooperation and collaboration among stakeholders is seen as a positive step towards ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.
