New Royal Edict Aims to Bring Peace and Progress to Okpella
In a significant development, the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella has issued a royal edict, RE/A02/24, outlining key decisions aimed at promoting peace, stability, and progress in Okpella. This move comes as the new monarch prepares to open a new palace and hold court at his home, marking a major milestone in the community’s history.
At the heart of the edict is the administration of Okugbe, a critical issue that has been a subject of concern for the community. The Okuokpellagbe has accepted three Daudus, who will be issued letters of recognition to enable them to discharge their responsibilities in the City Center. This decision is driven by the ongoing spirit of reconciliation and healing in the land.
“If I am left to choose between my authority and peace in Okpella, I will prefer peace,” the Okuokpellagbe emphasised, underscoring his commitment to fostering a harmonious and peaceful environment in the community.

The royal edict also establishes a committee comprising the six Daudus, headed by the most senior one, to implement key directives related to the Post Office land matter. Barrister Nicholas Aliu has been nominated to join and serve as the secretary of the committee.
Furthermore, the Okuokpellagbe has directed the Etsako East Supervisory Councillor for Environment, Hon. Isah Abudu Haruna, to work with the committee to present a proposal for the evacuation of the huge refuse dump on the remaining portion of the Post office Land. The land will subsequently be allocated to resident market women for temporary trading, without any payment or extortion.
Progress reports on these initiatives will be submitted to the Principal Private Secretary for evaluation and monitoring. As the Okuokpellagbe-in-Council emphasised, “With Collective Efforts, A New Okpella Is Possible!”
