Amaju Pinnick, former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), says the Super Eagles will get an “enterprising” head coach ahead of the forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Eagles have been without a substantive head coach since Finidi George resigned in June 2024 after just two games.
Austine Eguavoen was named interim coach, and he successfully guided the team through the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
However, the NFF has not named a permanent name for the role despite the all-important World Cup qualifiers resuming in March.
In a chat with Channels TV on Friday, Pinnick assured that NFF will appoint a manager for the Eagles soon, adding that the appointee will be reputable because “I have heard about who they are bringing”.
He added that the federation will also name “a team of coaching crew” to support the individual upon appointment.
“I know a lot is going on [concerning NFF appointing a new coach for Super Eagles]. First, they have to funds,” Pinnick said.
“And the chairman of the national sports commission is working with them to ensure that. I believe they have done that last week. Any moment from now, I am sure they will be announcing a coach, an enterprising coach at that. I have heard about who they are bringing.
“They are coming out with a coach with a rating of backroom staff. They are coming out with a team of coaching crew.”
The Super Eagles will resume their 2026 World Cup qualification bid against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.
Nigeria are currently fifth in Group C of the qualifier. The team is also winless after four games.
