As efforts toward finding solution to the Niger debacle intensifies, the Ad-hoc committee set-up by the Parliament of Economic Community of West African States (ECOParl) has visited a prominent Nigerian Islamic scholar, Abdullahi Bala Lau, popularly known as Sheikh Balalau in Abuja.
The Sheikh doubled as the national Chairman of the Jama’atu Izalatul Bidi’ah wa Ikamatus Sunnah, the largest Salafi movement in Nigeria, since December 2011.
The meeting that was held behind closed doors, lasted for about an hour.
The meeting is part of the committee’s wider stakeholders consultation toward building concensus on how best to tackle the situation.
The committee had on August 21, 2023 visited the ECOWAS Commission secretariat to intimate the President of the Parliament’s resolution which favours diplomatic solution.
