Renowned Nigerian journalist, Macelina Ozekhome has made history as the only TV journalist from Nigeria to win the prestigious ECOWAS Excellence Media Award. The award ceremony took place on Friday, July 25, 2025, in Banjul, The Gambia.

In an info scooped from her verified Facebook page by SummitPost News, Macelina expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I’m thrilled to share this incredible achievement with you all! I’m honored to have received this prestigious recognition.”

She dedicated the award to her late parents, High Chief Barrister James Apoede and Mary Oyedeibo Ozekhome, saying, “Their prayers and sacrifices laid the foundation for my success. I dedicate this award to their legacy and memories which continue to inspire me.”

Macelina also thanked her employer, Late High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi, for providing her with a platform to excel. She also appreciated her support system, including her uncle Professor Mike Ozekhome, her team at DAAR Communications Plc, and her loved ones.
“Above all, yes, above all, I give thanks to God Almighty for the gift of life and health, for His defence and protection over my life, and for guiding me on this journey,” Macelina emphasized.
This award is a testimony to my dedication, hard work, and passion for storytelling. “I’m proud to represent Africa Independent Television (AIT), and I look forward to continuing to tell the stories that shape West Africa and our world at large,” she said.
