NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms, Moderate Rains Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across several parts of the country on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, urging the public to take precautions against potential weather hazards.

In its daily weather outlook released on Tuesday, the agency said, “Sunny skies are expected over most parts of the northern region during the morning hours, while sunny conditions are likely to persist across the region with slim chances of isolated thunderstorms over the southern parts of Taraba State later in the day.”

For the central region, NiMet predicted “sunny skies with patches of clouds” during the morning period, followed by “isolated thunderstorms with moderate rains over parts of Kogi, Kwara, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Nasarawa States later in the day.”

In the southern region, the forecast indicated a “cloudy atmosphere with light rains and thunderstorms likely over parts of Edo, Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom States” in the morning.

Thunderstorms with moderate rains are also “anticipated over most parts of the southern region during the afternoon and evening hours,” the agency noted.

The agency cautioned residents to remain vigilant, warning that rainfall could cause slippery roads and flooding in some areas.

“Residents are advised to exercise caution during rainfall to prevent slips and avoid flood-prone areas,” NiMet said.

Motorists were also urged to “drive carefully due to possible reduced visibility and slippery road surfaces during rainfall events,” while airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective flight planning.

NiMet further encouraged Nigerians to stay informed through its daily updates, saying, “The public is encouraged to stay updated with NiMet’s daily weather reports for timely guidance.”

Operating under the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, NiMet, is responsible for providing weather forecasts, climate monitoring, and early warning information to ensure public safety and support national planning.
