No Grid Collapse But Line Trippings That Affected Lagos Axis Supply – TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says reports by a section of the media that the nation’s grid collapsed on Saturday were unfounded as no such incidence was recorded.
Some media reports had it earlier that there was a grid collapse, the first in the year 2025.
In a swift response, a statement issued by the head, Public Affairs of the transmission company, Ndidi Mbah, explained that at about 13:41Hrs, the Osogbo – Ihovour line tripped, followed by the tripping of the Benin – Omotosho line, affecting bulk supply to Lagos axis alone.
It noted that at about 13:00 hrs same day, just before the tripping, total generation on the grid was 4,335.63MW.
And that after the trippings, however, generation was 2,573.23MW, a clear indication that the grid did not experience a collapse.
According to TCN, the transmission line tripping affected Edgbin, Olorunsogo, Omotoso, Geregu, and Paras, but they had all been restored except for the Benin – Omotoso 330kV line whose restoration was ongoing.
“As TCN continues to work hard to put in place a robust transmission grid, in spite of prevailing challenges, it is imperative that we understand the negative impact of misinforming the public and the value of disseminating true and verifiable facts,” TCN cautioned.
