NOUN Vice-Chancellor Urges Renewal, Resilience in Easter Message

The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Uduma Oji Uduma, has called on members of the university community and Nigerians at large to embrace renewal, resilience, and purposeful living as they mark Easter Sunday.

In a goodwill message issued on Sunday, the Vice-Chancellor described Easter as a profound moment of reflection, symbolising resurrection, renewal, and the triumph of life over adversity, noting that its message transcends religious boundaries and speaks to the universal human experience.

Quoting the biblical passage in Gospel of Luke 24:6, “He is not here, but is risen,” Uduma said the essence of Easter lies not only in its spiritual significance but also in its philosophical depth, which underscores the enduring possibility of new beginnings even in the face of apparent endings.

He observed that Easter offers a compelling reminder that renewal is not a distant aspiration but a present and living reality, adding that what may appear as closure often represents transformation in progress.

The Vice-Chancellor further noted that the celebration reinforces a timeless truth shared across cultures—that hardship is often followed by ease, and darkness gives way to light—emphasising that no condition is permanent.

Addressing the university community, Uduma said the ethos of NOUN reflects the very spirit of renewal that Easter embodies, stressing that the institution continues to expand access to education beyond traditional limitations.

According to him, the university provides opportunities for diverse groups, including working-class individuals, those in remote locations, and citizens seeking to rebuild their lives through education, thereby affirming the transformative power of knowledge.

He urged students to remain steadfast in their academic pursuits, despite challenges, assuring them that progress, though sometimes gradual, is continuous and meaningful.

“Every step forward, no matter how small, contributes significantly to personal growth and future success,” he said, encouraging students to renew their discipline, strengthen their commitment, and sustain confidence in their aspirations.

Uduma also commended members of staff for their dedication, describing their roles as not only instructional but transformational, with far-reaching impact on individuals and society.

He called on all members of the university community to let go of fear, doubt, and hesitation, and instead embrace purpose, courage, and clarity, while cultivating hope as a sustaining force.

The Vice-Chancellor concluded by urging Nigerians to see Easter as a turning point toward resilience, excellence, and renewed purpose, maintaining that no situation is beyond renewal and no life is beyond growth.

He wished Christians a joyful Easter celebration and extended warm regards to all members of the university community.
