The Nigeria Premier Football League has imposed a ₦9 million fine on Katsina United and ordered the club to play the rest of its home fixtures at a neutral venue in Jos without fans, following violent conduct during their 1–1 draw with Barau FC on Saturday.
The sanctions were announced after a supporter of Katsina United reportedly invaded the pitch and attacked Barau FC midfielder, Nana Abraham, shortly after the visitors scored the equaliser at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. The player sustained a deep cut on the neck during the incident.
In a statement, the NPFL faulted Katsina United for failing to provide adequate security and for losing control of its supporters, an action the league body said brought the game to disrepute.
The ₦9 million fine covers offences relating to poor security arrangements, violent fan behaviour, and compensation for injuries and damages recorded during the chaos.
Katsina United have been given 48 hours to appeal the ruling.
