NUJ Taraba News/SUM TV Chapel Sworn- in Newly Elected Officials

The Taraba State leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has added weight today as newly established Taraba News- SUM TV chapel officials were sworn-in.

The event which drew well wishers, friends, associates and scholars was a huge success as the officials were administered oath of office and allegiance by the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Taraba State Council Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen.

Chief Olayinka Motunrayo Gabriel during the chapel’s election emerged the pioneer Chairman to set a pace for the success of the new Chapel in promoting healthy journalism in Taraba State.

Chief Olayinka the Chief Executive Officer of Taraba News-SUM TV a private media outlets was elected alongside others to steer the affairs of the baby Chapel.

Speaking during the inauguration, Chairman NUJ Taraba State Council Mathew Eliud Jen harped on the need for Journalists particularly from the chapel to operate within the confine of the NUJ constitution and the Professional ethics.

According to him, the society can only flourish where Journalists exhibit high sense of professionalism in their reportage by being objective, factual, unbiased and balanced.

“The birth of the Taraba News SUM TV chapel is an added feather to the NUJ Taraba State Council as they can now boost with their shoulders high for having a larger membership in the state.

He Congratulated the management of the new chapel for their doggedness in ensuring that they fulfill all rites to warrant the establishment of the chapel in Taraba State.

He described the pioneer Chairman who doubled as the CEO of Taraba News/SUM TV Chief Olayinka Motunrayo Gabriel as hardworking and humble personality who is contributing positively towards the economic growth of the State.

He lauded the CEO who is a professional accountant but desired to join the Journalism Profession remarking that he should use his present line of duty to promote development.

In a good will message,Professor Chiakaan Gbaden Jacob who decried abuse to journalism, challenged practitioners to correct the wrongs.

He remarked that Journalists are not beggars and there is no need to be one, stressing that Journalists should be professional who will set agenda for the society as well as hold government accountable to the citizens.

Professor Chiakaan Jacob warned journalists to desist from praise singing in the writings but ensure the embark on truthful, balanced, investigative and critical writings.

The University Don,who is also a member of the newly established Chapel congratulated the officials on their inauguration and assured of their support to enable them succeed.

On his part, the Chairman of the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Comrade Gabriel Yough said Journalism is open to who have gemine contribution for the development of the society.

He stressed the need for Journalists to always take into cognisance the ethical codes guiding their operations.

He urged the newly inaugurated officials to be dutiful in order to maintain the integrity of Journalism in the eye of the public.
