The Management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Tuesday, condemned the assault on a corps member in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, describing the incident as both “unwarranted and unacceptable.”
Findings by the scheme revealed that a group of operatives from the Anambra State Vigilante Group forcefully invaded a Corps Lodge in Oba, alleging that the residence was being used for illegal activities, an accusation that has not been substantiated.
During the operation, the vigilante operatives allegedly ordered all occupants of the lodge to submit themselves for a search. In the process, Corps Member Edema Elohor Jennifer (AN/24C/0626), who was visiting the lodge at the time, was physically assaulted.
NYSC management confirmed that it is following up closely with security agencies to ensure that those behind the assault are held accountable, saying that, “The matter has been reported to the police while investigations and other necessary actions are ongoing.”
Management wishes to restate its strong commitment to the welfare and security of its Corps Members nationwide, and would not condone any individual or group of persons that undermines the security of her Corps Members for whatsoever reasons.
Additionally, Members of the public are enjoined to provide adequate security for our Corps Members in all their respective places of Primary Assignment and host communities.
