Former Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has strongly criticized APC chieftain Senator Anthony Adefuye for backing the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
Obasa, who represented Agege 1 constituency, was removed on January 13 by his colleagues over allegations of misconduct. He was replaced by the former Deputy Speaker, Mrs. Mojisola Meranda. Addressing supporters in Ikeja, Obasa declared his impeachment illegitimate and vowed to resume his legislative duties soon, denying allegations of corruption leveled against him.
In a recent interview, Adefuye, a member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), expressed agreement with Obasa’s claims, stating:
“What he is saying is that he was illegally removed, and the procedure was faulty, and I agree with him.”
Reacting to Adefuye’s comments, Obanikoro criticized the statement as “careless” and unbecoming of a senior party leader.
“The statement of Senator Adefuye on the removal of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, is very unfortunate, childish, and inconsequential,” Obanikoro said. “As leaders, rushing to make public or personal statements on serious matters of this magnitude is not appropriate.”
Obanikoro urged party leaders to exercise caution and prioritize due process and internal conflict resolution over public declarations that could deepen divisions within the party.
