The Obidient Movement has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to support Peter Obi instead of contesting in the 2027 presidential election.
The appeal follows a private meeting between Jonathan and Obi in Abuja on Thursday.
After the meeting, Obi described Jonathan as a respected elder and leader while noting that their discussion focused on the state of the nation.
The development has fueled speculation that Jonathan may return to active politics, though he has not yet made a formal declaration.
Leaders of the Obidient Movement say Jonathan is widely admired as a statesman and should continue to play that role rather than enter the 2027 race.
According to the group, Obi remains the preferred candidate for Nigerians seeking change and better governance.
The National Coordinator of the movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, explained that while Jonathan and Obi share a cordial relationship, it would be more beneficial for Jonathan to lend his support to Obi’s political ambition.
He added that Jonathan’s legacy as a former president is secure, and standing behind Obi would strengthen unity among those calling for a new political direction.
The Obidient Movement, which grew around Obi’s candidacy in the 2023 election, continues to push for reforms in governance and insists that Obi represents the hopes of a younger, reform-minded generation.
With campaigns for 2027 gradually taking shape, the group has begun lobbying influential leaders to rally around Obi’s candidacy.
