OBJ, GEJ, PMB, Abdulsalami to Honour IBB As “Evil Genuis” Launches Memoir Feb 20
Former Military President General Ibrahim Babangida is set to launch his highly anticipated memoir, “A Journey In Service,” on February 20, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
The autobiography comes 32 years after Babangida left office, a period marked by significant controversy, including the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) policy and the unresolved murder of journalist Dele Giwa.
Babangida’s time in office was also defined by his nickname “evil genius” and “Maradona,” which he attributes to his “deft political moves.” He noted, “That’s the very good thing about the Nigerian media and Nigerian people, you have to anticipate them. If you anticipate them then you live well with them”.
The launch event will be chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the special guest of honor. Other notable attendees include former presidents Muhammadu Buhari, Yakubu Gowon, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Goodluck Jonathan.
Babangida had previously expressed doubts about writing an autobiography, stating that he was uncertain if Nigerians would “want to read about a dictator.” However, he has since authored the book, which is expected to provide insight into his time in office and the significant events that shaped his presidency.
