Ogori-Magongo Council Emerges Best in Primary Healthcare Delivery Among 21 Kogi LGAs

Ogirimangogo Local Government Area has emerged overall best among the 21 LGAs of Kogi in quality primary healthcare service delivery.

The state Governor, Ahmed Ododo, rewarded the best-performing LGAs and personnel during the inauguration of 80 revitalised Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) on Friday in Lokoja.

Ogirimangogo LGA received a star prize of N5 million. The first positions in each senatorial district received N3 million each.

Second-place winners received N2 million each, while individual health officers with outstanding performance across LGAs received N250,000 each.

The 80 revitalised PHCs form part of the first phase of Kogi’s healthcare revitalisation programme.

The initiative is supported by the World Bank and the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) under the IMPACT project.

Mr Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery, especially for the poor and vulnerable across the state.

He urged communities to protect the newly revitalised facilities from vandalism to ensure their sustainability and long-term benefit.

The Executive Director of NPHCDA, Dr Muyi Aina, commended Mr Ododo for his visionary leadership and for expanding the state’s health insurance scheme in spite of limited resources.

Mr Aina said, “Kogi is a model for others to follow, and we are proud to partner with them in improving healthcare delivery.’’

He praised the dedication of Kogi’s health workers and encouraged the governor to sustain his leadership as a model for service excellence.

The Chairman of Ogirimangogo LGA, Rosemary Ohiezu, thanked the state government and NPHCDA for the recognition and support.

“This award reflects the hard work and dedication of our health workers and management team,” she said.

Ms Ohiezu commended Mr Ododo for his humility and commitment to healthcare improvement and urged other chairmen to prioritise health services in their areas.

Winners by senatorial districts were as follows: Kogi Central – first, Ogori/Magongo; second, Ajaokuta. Kogi East – first, Bassa; second, Ofu. Kogi West – first, Mopa-Muro; second, Kogi LGA.

Ogirimangogo LGA emerged the overall best-performing local government area in primary healthcare delivery across Kogi State.
