Okpebholo to Edo Commissioners: No Tinubu Cap, No Entry to EXCO

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has issued a stern directive to newly appointed commissioners, warning that any of them who fail to wear the “Asiwaju cap,” symbolic of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will not be allowed into the Executive Council meeting.

The governor gave the warning on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of 20 commissioners and members of various boards in Benin City.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the success of his administration was made possible through President Tinubu’s support and described the “Asiwaju cap” as a mark of respect and solidarity.

“This could not have happened if we did not have a responsible President,” he said. “We have had several elections in the past where the sitting President was not with us. So, let me be clear: if you come to EXCO in traditional attire without this Asiwaju cap, you will go back.”

He also cautioned that his administration would not tolerate corruption or acts that could undermine the integrity of the government. The governor stressed that the appointments were based on merit and commitment to service, not as political rewards.

“Your nominations did not come as a reward or patronage but as a call to serve the people of Edo State. Our focus is on service delivery and tangible results that can be felt in every community, not propaganda,” Okpebholo stated.

He charged the appointees to uphold integrity, unity, and dedication as they work to achieve his administration’s vision for development.

Speaking on behalf of the new appointees, Festus Ebea thanked the governor for the trust reposed in them and pledged their full commitment to advancing the administration’s goals for Edo State.

The ceremony was attended by government officials, political leaders, and dignitaries who described the governor’s insistence on discipline and loyalty as a sign of strong leadership and political alignment with the federal government.
