Some senior members of the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State have pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

The group, operating under the name Ondo State APC Elders Movement, announced plans to mobilise voters across the state to secure a large share of the total votes for the President.

The commitment was made at a meeting in Akure, the state capital, where party elders outlined strategies to rally support. According to the leaders of the movement, their goal is to secure 1.5 million votes for Tinubu out of the 1.9 million registered voters in the state. They described the gathering as the beginning of broader engagements that will extend to local government areas, wards, and polling units.

The elders explained that their movement is built around unity and collective strength, and they intend to build on the successes recorded in previous elections. They maintained that the group is committed to encouraging citizens to participate fully in the electoral process, especially in the ongoing voter registration exercise being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Speakers at the meeting pointed out that one of the challenges in past elections has been voter apathy, as many residents often fail to participate on election day. They noted that the elders’ movement will work hard to change this trend by persuading more citizens to come out and cast their votes in favour of Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The meeting also featured contributions from party stakeholders, including representatives of federal institutions, who stressed that with a unified approach, the President’s chances in the 2027 poll would be much stronger. The leaders said that the creation of the elders’ forum has provided a platform for coordination, guidance, and direction, which they believe will make a difference in future elections.

The group assured members that preparations for Tinubu’s continuity in office would not end with the governorship election scheduled for November 2024 but would continue until the presidential election in 2027.
