Galatasaray president Dursun Özbek has heaped praise on Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, declaring him the second most admired forward in the club’s illustrious history, trailing only the legendary Metin Oktay.
Since his high-profile transfer from Napoli, Osimhen has been instrumental in the club’s domestic success, playing a pivotal role in securing the Turkish Super Lig title last season.
“After Metin Oktay, Victor Osimhen is the striker that excites me most among all strikers that have played for Galatasaray,” Özbek told reporters, as quoted by Habersarikirmizi.
The president also offered a glimpse into the striker’s extraordinary dedication behind the scenes, revealing that Osimhen’s intensity during practice mirrors his match-day performances. “We admire Osimhen even when we watch him in training. He performs as if he is in a match even there,” Özbek noted, adding with a touch of concern, “We are afraid he might get injured.”
Osimhen’s influence extends beyond domestic competition. Having been the driving force behind their title charge last term, he has continued his stellar form this season, helping the club navigate a challenging campaign to qualify for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, where they are set to face Liverpool.
