The Osun State Government has declared that the curfew imposed on Ilobu and Ifon Orolu communities will remain in place until peace is fully restored following recent clashes.
Governor Ademola Adeleke imposed the 7 pm to 7 am curfew last Thursday after violence erupted between the two communities, leading to several injuries and the tragic death of a polytechnic student in Ilobu. Security forces, including the Army, Police, and Civil Defence operatives, have since been deployed to maintain order.
Speaking on Sunday, Mr. Samuel Ojo, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, noted that calm had returned to the area but stressed that the government remains committed to addressing the root causes of the conflict.
“For now, the two communities have sheathed their swords, and the government is working diligently to bring both sides to an agreement,” Ojo said.
He added that a committee comprising stakeholders from both communities, their monarchs, and key government and judiciary officials will be established to provide a lasting solution to the crisis.
The state government has called on residents to comply with the curfew and cooperate with security agencies while urging community leaders to prioritise dialogue over violence.
