Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has congratulated Mr. Eze Anaba on his re-election as President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), describing the unopposed victory as a strong endorsement of his integrity, inclusive leadership, and unwavering commitment to the principles of credible journalism.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Linus Obogo, Governor Otu also extended warm felicitations to Mr. Onuoha Ukeh of The Sun Newspapers, who was elected General Secretary, and Dr. Abu Sabastine Mohammed, elected Deputy President, along with other new executives.
The governor lauded the outcome of the Biennial National Convention held in Enugu, noting that the new leadership “strikes a commendable balance between experience and innovation.”
Governor Otu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing officers, including Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren and Mr. Steve Nwosu, for their years of impactful service, which he said contributed significantly to strengthening the Guild as a defender of press freedom and professional excellence.
He commended the peaceful and transparent conduct of the elections, describing the process as “a shining example worthy of replication by other professional and political organizations.”
Reiterating his administration’s support for a vibrant, responsible media landscape, Governor Otu stated:
“In Cross River State, the media is not viewed as a foe but as a vital partner in governance.
“We are committed to working closely with the Nigerian Guild of Editors to promote truth, transparency, and national unity through ethical journalism.”
