Governor Bassey Edet Otu has directed all members of the State Executive Council and political appointees intending to contest the 2027 general elections to resign from office on or before March 26, 2026.
The directive was issued during the State Executive Council meeting, where the governor stressed the need for focus, discipline and integrity in governance.
Otu said public office must not be mixed with personal political ambition, insisting that the people of Cross River State deserve undivided attention from those entrusted with leadership responsibilities.
He noted that the administration remains committed to delivering on its mandate without the distractions of early political activities, describing the period as critical for consolidating governance and development efforts.
According to the governor, the decision is not meant to punish anyone but is rooted in principle and in line with global best practices. He added that the move is aimed at ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants while protecting the integrity of government institutions.
Otu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to its development agenda, including efforts to drive economic diversification, strengthen strategic partnerships and boost internally generated revenue.
He called for full compliance with the directive, urging appointees to uphold accountability, discipline and selfless service, while placing the interest of the state above personal ambition.
