Governor Bassey Otu has joined eminent political figures and community leaders to honour Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe on his 55th birthday, praising him as a leader firmly connected to the people and a valuable asset to Cross River State.
The celebration, which held at the Hilton Hotel in Abuja, drew a large gathering of dignitaries, including policymakers, legislators, community representatives and supporters from within and outside the state.
In his remarks, Governor Otu said every individual is born with a divine purpose, but only those who learn to navigate life’s challenges attain true fulfillment. He commended Senator Jarigbe for “living out this principle through his steady devotion to the welfare of his constituents.”
The governor described the senator as “a people oriented leader who is genuinely loved by his people,” adding that his commitment to service has contributed significantly to strengthening unity across Cross River State, especially in times when political tensions once ran high.
Reflecting humorously on age, Otu recalled thinking fifty was old during his youth, but described Senator Jarigbe as “a young gentleman” whose experience and maturity have positioned him to make lasting contributions to society.
Representing the voices of Cross Riverians at home and abroad, the governor noted that the senator’s inclusive leadership continues to endear him to the public. He also expressed satisfaction with the calibre of attendees, including councilors, lawmakers, local government chairmen, deputy office holders and former governors, describing their presence as evidence of the senator’s wide acceptance and the respect he commands.
Governor Otu reaffirmed his commitment to a progressive Cross River State, emphasising that the gains recorded so far are products of collective effort. He urged younger leaders to uphold unity, sustain development and build on the foundations already being laid. He concluded with prayers for long life, prosperity and “better days ahead” for the celebrant.
In a goodwill message, former House of Representatives member for Ogoja Yala Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Peter Igbodor, celebrated the senator as a distinguished public servant whose leadership continues to inspire many across Cross River North. He praised Senator Jarigbe’s investment in people oriented projects, human capital development and educational support, noting that these interventions have promoted self reliance and accelerated socioeconomic growth in the region.
Also paying tribute, Chief James Achara, a respected Ogoja community leader, described Senator Jarigbe as “an extraordinary son of Ogoja” whose courage and compassion have lifted countless communities. He said the senator’s work is evident in youth empowerment, improved economic opportunities and infrastructure renewal, adding that the senator remains a leader driven by a deep sense of duty, empathy and justice.
Another goodwill message came from Hon. Rita Ayim, former Chairman of Ogoja Local Government and former member of the Cross River State House of Assembly. She joined the people of Cross River North in celebrating “an icon, an exceptional and empathic leader dearly loved by his people.” She said the senator’s popularity is rooted in genuine service and consistent fulfilment of his electoral promises.
Hon. Ayim commended the senator for the various interventions he continues to deliver across the district and prayed for divine guidance over his life. She expressed the hope that God’s purpose for him and the people he serves would continue to unfold.
Meanwhile, the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Vena Ikem, Esq., praised Senator Jarigbe for maintaining peace, unity and political stability in Cross River North despite his recent move to the All Progressives Congress. In his message, Ikem stated that although political platforms may differ, Senator Jarigbe has always placed the collective interest of his district above partisan considerations.
He noted that the senator’s political maturity has helped stabilise communities that once experienced deep divisions. According to the chairman, the senator’s role in calming tensions and promoting mutual understanding “stands out as one of his most enduring strengths.” He described Senator Jarigbe’s ability to maintain harmony even after switching parties as “a mark of rare statesmanship that puts development above rivalry.”
Ikem prayed for continued wisdom and strength for the senator, adding that “Senator Jarigbe has shown that the unity of our people is bigger than politics. His actions continue to inspire peace, cooperation and hope across Cross River North.”
Senator Jarigbe’s 55th birthday continues to attract tributes from political, traditional and community leaders, as well as constituents and well wishers across the country. The celebration ended with a shared acknowledgment of his service driven leadership and the impact he continues to make in Cross River State.
