Cross River state Governor, Bassey Otu, has reiterated his administration’s resolve to harness opportunities within Nigeria’s rapidly expanding creative industry, following a strategic engagement with Big Brother Naija finalist, Sultana.
The meeting, held at the governor’s country home in Adiabo, Odukpani Local Government Area, signalled a renewed push to deepen collaboration aimed at boosting the state’s cultural and tourism profile.
Governor Otu described the visit as timely and significant, particularly as it coincided with the Easter season, commending the reality star for maintaining a strong connection with her roots. “We appreciate this visit at such a meaningful time. It reflects commitment and a sense of identity with Cross River,” he said.
Reaffirming the state’s tradition of supporting its indigene, the governor noted that Sultana’s emergence on a national platform remains a source of pride. “We stand by our own wherever they are. Your achievements reflect resilience and determination, and we are proud of you,” he added.
Otu stressed that the creative sector has become a critical driver of economic growth and cultural expression, emphasizing that his administration is positioning Cross River as a leading destination for culture and tourism. “We are deliberate about building a state that thrives on its cultural strength, and partnerships like this will help us achieve that vision,” he stated.
He further assured that the state would provide institutional backing to support such collaborations, disclosing that additional engagements would be convened to develop a structured framework involving key stakeholders. “We will engage relevant actors to ensure that this partnership delivers meaningful outcomes,” he said.
In her remarks, Sultana commended the governor’s leadership, particularly in infrastructure development and the promotion of tourism. “The progress recorded within a short period is impressive and speaks to purposeful leadership,” she noted.
She expressed readiness to contribute to the state’s growth, offering to leverage her platform to promote its cultural heritage and flagship events, including Carnival Calabar. “I am willing to support the state in showcasing its unique identity to a wider audience,” she said.
Sultana also reaffirmed her willingness to serve in any capacity that would enhance the state’s visibility both nationally and globally. “I remain committed to contributing meaningfully to the advancement of Cross River,” she added.
