The Local Government Election Tribunals in Akwa Ibom have dismissed 13 petitions filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the victories of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the October 5, 2024, Chairmanship and Councillorship elections. The petitions were rejected for being filed late, reaffirming PDP’s dominance in the state.
Ekemini Uba, the PDP State Legal Adviser, revealed that the dismissed cases included those challenging PDP candidates in Abak, Ibiono Ibom, and 11 wards in Ibiono Ibom. Uba expressed satisfaction with the verdicts, praising the tribunals for upholding due process and reaffirming the legitimacy of the party’s candidates.
Uba also credited Governor Pastor Umo Eno for promoting political stability and avoiding unnecessary litigation, highlighting his belief that leadership is divinely given. Despite minor losses in a few constituencies, PDP leaders celebrated their overall triumph and called for peaceful politics in the state.
