Pandemonium As Gunmen Attack Taraba Gov’s Mother, Sister

There was pandemonium in Taraba State today as Gunmen suspected to be bandits  reportedly attacked the mother of Taraba State Governor, Jumai Kefas, and sister, Atsi Kefas.

Meanwhile, an appointee of Governor Agbu Kefas, Bobga  Suntai, has said politicians, especially the yet-to-be-inaugurated appointees in Taraba, are hungry.

Yesterday’s attacks on the first family occurred along Kente Road in Wukari Local Council of the state.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Wukari Local Council, Dauda Agbu, described the attack as “deeply troubling”.

He revealed that the governor’s sister sustained a gunshot wound during the incident, adding: “She was initially treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari, where her condition was stabilised, before being airlifted to Abuja for further medical attention.”

The council chairman urged residents to remain calm, assuring them of efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in Taraba, Usman Abdullahi, said the information reaching the command from the Wukari division said it was an armed robbery attack.

Though the command could not ascertain if the victims of the attack were family members of the number one citizen of the state, Abdullah, admitted that one of the occupants of the attacked vehicle sustained gun injuries.

The Guardian learnt that relevant authorities launched an investigation into the incident, which raised concerns about security in the region.

No official statement has been made by the state government at press time.

SUNTAI expressed worry that Governor Kefas has abandoned loyal party men, who worked for his victory and urged him to inaugurate the appointees to alleviate the hunger.

Kefas had, four months ago, released a list of over 1,000 political appointees who till now, have not received letters of appointment.

In a statement, Suntai, who described himself as a self-appointed Public Relations Officer for the Taraba State Association of Unconfirmed SAs, SSAs and CSAs, lamented that the governor’s action was a clear negligence of loyal party men.

“As a loyal PDP man, who worked to ensure the victory of Governor Agbu Kefas, I must state here that politicians especially those of us who have not been inaugurated since appointed four months ago, are hungry. I want Governor Kefas to inaugurate the appointees and ease them from the situation
