Pastor Adeboye Recants on Tithing, Apologises for Misleading Members
Lagos, Nigeria – In a shocking reversal, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has apologized for previously teaching that non-tithers cannot make it to heaven.
“I apologize for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you won’t make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible,” Adeboye said in a video statement.
Adeboye clarified that the Bible instead emphasizes the importance of living a holy life, citing Hebrews 12:14, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.”

This apology marks a significant departure from Adeboye’s previous stance on tithing, which had sparked controversy and debate within the Christian community.
Many have welcomed Adeboye’s retraction, viewing it as a step towards promoting a more inclusive and compassionate understanding of faith.
“Adeboye’s apology shows that leaders can admit mistakes and grow,” said RCCG member, Tolani Olawale. “It’s a relief to know our salvation isn’t tied to a specific financial obligation.”
Others see this as an opportunity for greater discussion on the role of tithing in modern Christianity.
“This apology opens the door for reevaluating outdated teachings,” explained religious scholar, Dr. Femi Abiade. “It’s time to focus on the true essence of faith, not just financial obligations.”
As the news continues to unfold, many are left pondering the implications of Adeboye’s apology and its potential impact on the global Christian community.
