The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has strongly condemned the alleged pronouncement by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to compromise the forthcoming Edo Governorship election in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
At the end of their monthly meeting in Jalingo, Taraba State, the forum’s chairman, Senator Bala Mohammed, expressed the governors’ concern over the president’s alleged plan, stating, “We condemn the pronouncements by the President to compromise the election in favor of his party, as well as the systematic intimidation of PDP supporters by the Nigeria Police, and call on the Inspector General of Police to call his men to order.”
Senator Mohammed emphasized the need for free and fair elections, saying, “We will not stand idly by while the democratic process is undermined. The people of Edo State deserve to choose their leader without interference or intimidation.”
The forum also discussed pressing national issues, including the economy, governance, and security. Senator Mohammed noted, “The country is going through a lot of challenges in several sectors of the economy, and as PDP Governors, we have to come together to discuss and proffer solutions to the challenges confronting the nation.”
The governors commended the host state, Taraba, for its hospitality and noted the “giant steps” taken by the state government to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.
Other resolutions included:
– A call for transparency in revenue allocation, with Senator Mohammed stating, “We call on the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General of the Federation to be more transparent in obeying the law, particularly section 162 (1) (2) (3).”
– Separation of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and that of the Accountant General of the Federal Government, with the governors arguing that this would ensure accountability and adherence to constitutional provisions.
– Support for the Governor of Rivers State in resolving the political impasse in the state, with Senator Mohammed saying, “We stand with the Governor of Rivers State and will engage the NWC of our great party to revisit the congress with a view to correcting the anomaly and allowing His Excellency Governor Siminalayi Fubara to take his rightful leadership position of the party in the state.”
The PDP Governors’ Forum reiterated its commitment to standing with the Nigerian people and working towards a better future for the country.
