The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has renewed its commitment to rebuilding the party and strengthening its structures across Nigeria following a stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at the Metropolitan Hotel, Calabar.
The meeting brought together representatives from the Board of Trustees, the National Leadership, State Chapters and grassroots structures to assess the current state of the party and chart a way forward.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, stakeholders reaffirmed their unwavering dedication to the PDP’s revival and pledged to remain steadfast in the pursuit of unity, renewal and internal cohesion.
The resolutions acknowledged the existence of factional tensions at the national level. Stakeholders resolved to intensify reconciliation efforts aimed at uniting the warring groups, while the Board of Trustees representative from Cross River State assured members that dialogue was ongoing to restore peace and cohesion.
Participants also underscored the importance of strong grassroots support, noting that the base remains the bedrock on which the party’s resurgence will be built.
The communiqué expressed optimism that, with collective hope and determination, the PDP would recover and emerge stronger.
The Cross River State Chairman of the PDP, Venatius Ikem, who signed the communiqué, said the party in the state was undergoing deliberate repositioning to reclaim its winning strength in future elections.
He attributed the current reorganisation to the recent defection of its National Assembly members and the crisis triggered by the recently concluded congresses.
Ikem explained that despite the challenges, party members in Cross River have remained resolute and united in their commitment to rebuilding a stronger PDP.
He commended the high level of unity demonstrated at the stakeholders’ meeting, which was attended by notable figures including the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Senator Sandy Onor, and former Deputy Governor Efiok Cobham.
“The meeting reaffirmed the unwavering dedication of all members to rebuilding the PDP. Stakeholders pledged to remain steadfast in the pursuit of party unity and renewal,” he stated.
Ikem further noted that participants unanimously affirmed their resolve to turn the party’s challenges into opportunities, expressing confidence that the PDP would bounce back more resilient.
The communiqué called on all members, supporters and well-meaning Nigerians to join in the renewed effort, uphold the party’s ideals and work collectively for a prosperous future.
