Peter Obi celebrates Tems’ Grammy Win

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has congratulated Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi popularly known as Tems on her victory in the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday.

He celebrated her achievement while commending the remarkable success of Nigerian youth in the entertainment industry.

Taking to social media on Monday, Obi expressed his joy over the growing global recognition of Nigerian talents across various fields, particularly in entertainment.

He also lauded the contributions of other Nigerian artists who received Grammy nominations, emphasising the nation’s abundant talent pool that continues to earn global recognition.

He wrote, “I am ever elated by the huge success Nigerian youths are making in various fields, especially in the entertainment sector.

“I like therefore to extend my hearty congratulations to our Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tems #temsbaby, who just secured her second Grammy Award with her win in the Best African Music Performance category.

“I also rejoice with Nigeria’s entertainment industry and other Nigerian artists who were nominated for different awards in their respective categories.

“Undoubtedly, Nigeria remains home to the endless flow of talents who through their creative arts, continue to put the nation on the global map.

“I firmly remain committed to building a nation that fosters growth among the youths and helps them discover and harness their individual talents for national productivity. A New Nigeria is POssible.”

Tems secured the Grammy with her hit song Love Me Jeje, marking her second win after previously earning a Grammy for her contribution to Future’s chart-topping single Wait For U.

The Best African Music Performance category was highly competitive, featuring Yemi Alade’s Tomorrow, Asake’s MMS, Chris Brown’s Sensational (featuring Davido & Lojay), and Burna Boy’s Higher. Notably, all the nominees were Nigerian artists, reinforcing the country’s dominance on the global music scene.

The 67th Grammy Awards took place on Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
