
Police officers attached to the AIT Division Police Station have been arrested following a fatal shooting incident that occurred on Old Otta Road, Alagbado, Lagos State.
The officers were reportedly on stop-and-search duty near MRS Filling Station when they attempted to stop a moving vehicle. In the process, they allegedly shot at the vehicle’s tyres. However, while attempting to fire another shot, two passengers on a motorcycle passing by were hit by stray bullets.
Eyewitnesses said the officers fled the scene immediately after the shooting, leaving the victims unconscious and without immediate assistance. The victims were later confirmed dead after reportedly failing to receive prompt medical help.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the officers involved have been identified, arrested, and taken into custody.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough and intensive investigation into the incident. The Command also confirmed that adequate security personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent any breakdown of law and order, adding that normalcy has been restored.
The Lagos State Police Command assured residents that justice will be served and that the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.
