The incident, which occurred in the early hours of January 30, 2025, targeted the Nigerian Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF) lodge. According to police reports, the suspects allegedly gained access to the lodge through the back door while the occupants were away for morning devotion.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, said two corps members, Oladele Mathew and Afolabi Okikiola, reported that their rooms were broken into and several personal items were stolen.

Items carted away include four laptops (three HP and one Dell) valued at about ₦410,000, five power banks, two ear pods, an iTel P33+ mobile phone, school bags containing credentials and other valuables, as well as ₦15,000 in cash.

Police investigations led to the identification of a suspect, Otu Omini Otu, aged 40, who was handed over to the police by the Officer Commanding Military from 246 Barracks, Ikom, attached to Ugep. The suspect was described as a known offender recently released from Obubra Prison.

Following the complaint, detectives visited the scene and engaged traditional rulers and youth leaders in the community as part of efforts to track down those involved. This collaboration led to the arrest of another suspect, Isaiah Dennis Okoi, aged 29, at about 10:50am on February 7, 2026, with the assistance of a community chief, Sampson Okoi Ikpi.

Police say investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being made to recover the stolen items and bring all those involved to justice.
