The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says its operatives have rescued two minors and their mother from a violent domestic abuse situation in Mpape, Bwari Area Council.
A 45-year-old man, identified as David Tersoo, was arrested in connection with the incident. He was found in possession of a pump-action firearm and substances suspected to be hard drugs, according to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
The incident occurred on September 9, 2025, after the police received a distress call alleging that Tersoo had assaulted his eight-year-old daughter and her three-year-old sister, while forcing their mother and nine-month-old baby out of the house in the middle of the night.
Adeh said the Commissioner of Police immediately dispatched operatives from the Mpape Division alongside officers from the Command’s Gender Unit.
“Working with officials from the Ministry of Women Affairs, they rescued the children, one of whom had visible bruises and later traced their mother, who has now been placed in protective custody with her children,” she stated.
The suspect, described as a contractor with a known history of domestic violence, reportedly barricaded himself behind a bulletproof door while armed. Police operatives, after sustained efforts, subdued him without casualties.
Items recovered from the house include a pump-action firearm, white powder, and other substances suspected to be narcotics. Police sources confirmed that the suspect has been taken for drug testing as investigations continue.
The Commissioner of Police commended the vigilance of neighbours and the Ministry of Women Affairs for their role in preventing what could have been a deadly situation. He further urged victims of domestic violence to speak out, assuring that the Command remains committed to protecting vulnerable residents and ensuring justice.
Investigations are ongoing.
