The Nigeria Police Force has trained 325 personnel on the handling of Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear threats.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the participants were drawn from police commands across the 36 states of the federation.
The four-week intensive course took place at the Police Mobile Force Training College, Ende Hills, Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Speaking at the closing ceremony on Saturday, the Commissioner of Police in charge of EOD and CBRN, Hauwa Ibrahim, said the training marked a significant milestone in the NPF’s effort to enhance its counterterrorism capabilities.
She said the training, which covered detection, identification, and decontamination procedures, was part of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s initiatives to strengthen the Force’s operational efficiency in tackling terrorism and related threats to national security.
“The trainees were exposed to comprehensive modern anti-terrorism techniques and are now capable of deactivating explosives and responding to CBRN threats while ensuring public safety,” Ibrahim said.
She commended the participants for their dedication and discipline, and urged them to apply the knowledge gained to support anti-bomb squads in their respective commands.
Ibrahim also commended the instructors and partners who contributed to the success of the training, and urged members of the public to promptly report any suspected explosive devices to the nearest police station.
The Commandant of the Training College, DCP Sunday Peter, represented by CSP Alhassan Abdulazeez, lauded the IGP for prioritising regular training and capacity building for personnel.
On behalf of the participants, PC Ahmed Ruth from the Kwara State Command, who emerged as the best participant in the 2025 EOD and CBRN Basic Course, thanked the IGP for the opportunity and pledged to deploy the skills gained in service to the nation.
