Washington D.C. – The White House announced on Wednesday that President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms.
“This morning, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19,” said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. “He is fully vaccinated and has been boosted, and he is experiencing mild symptoms.”
This is not the President’s first bout with the virus, having contracted it twice before. Despite his illness, Biden was seen earlier on Wednesday visiting supporters in Las Vegas and speaking at an event. However, he has cancelled a campaign speech in the city scheduled for Wednesday night.
The news comes as Biden faces growing pressure to step aside due to his age, following a poor debate performance against Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump at the end of June.
“As the President said, ‘I’m doing well, thanks for asking,'” Jean-Pierre reassured reporters. “He is in good spirits and is fully engaged in his duties as President.”
The White House has not disclosed any further details about the President’s condition or his treatment plan, but assured that he is receiving proper medical care.
“We will keep the public informed of any updates,” Jean-Pierre added. “Thank you for your concern for the President’s health.”
