Qatar has unveiled a plan to supply natural gas to Syria via Jordan, aiming to ease the country’s ongoing energy crisis.
Khalifa Abdullah Al Sharif, Qatar’s Charge d’Affaires in Damascus, announced that the initiative will begin by generating 400 megawatts of electricity, with gradual increases funded by the Qatar Development Fund.
Syrian Electricity Minister Omar Shaqrouq confirmed that Qatar will provide two million cubic meters of natural gas daily. This support is expected to boost electricity production, adding two to four hours of power each day.
The initiative is seen as a crucial step in stabilizing Syria’s energy sector, which has been severely impacted by the collapse of the Bashar Al-Assad regime. The new Syrian administration hopes this move will improve citizens’ daily lives and support key industries.
With Syria facing chronic power shortages, the Qatari support is expected to bring immediate relief and pave the way for long-term recovery in the energy sector.
