RCCG Pastor Detained Abroad For Addressing Congregation As ‘Ladies And Gentlemen’

RCCG Pastor Detained Abroad For Addressing Congregation As ‘Ladies And Gentlemen’

The issue arose because the statement did not acknowledge all the gender identities recognised in that society.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has confirmed the arrest and detention of one of the church’s pastors abroad for addressing attendees at a program with the phrase “Ladies and gentlemen,” a greeting considered discriminatory in the culture of the country.

The issue arose because the statement did not acknowledge all the gender identities recognised in that society.

Adeboye, who expressed deep concerns over the pastor’s arrest, made this known during the church’s monthly thanksgiving service at the RCCG Throne of Grace in Lagos State on Sunday while delivering his Sunday sermon titled, “My Father’s House,” which was broadcast to all RCCG parishes.

The cleric, who however did not disclose the identity of the detained pastor or the country where he is being detained, warned, “The end is nearer than you think,” emphasizing that things are deteriorating rapidly and serving as a wake-up call.

He explained that the pastor’s arrest followed a complaint of discrimination, as some attendees questioned, “What about those who are neither ladies nor gentlemen?”

Adeboye also recounted a disturbing encounter involving a woman who referred to her dog as her husband.

When asked about her spouse, the woman claimed she had taken him to the vet before arriving, adding that he “doesn’t talk.” The dog, she said, was her “husband.”

Reflecting on the incidents, Adeboye expressed concerns about the decline of moral values globally, interpreting them as signs of the end times.

He said, “Those of you already in Christ, take this matter seriously. Do not let anyone weaken your stance. God is holy.
“For those still playing church, singing, clapping, and enjoying things without genuine commitment, remember, Jesus is coming back.

“The devil wants to harvest you, but you must not give him the opportunity. I want to see you in my Father’s house.”

The cleric, known for his stance on national and church-related issues, also criticised men who wear braided hair and women who use false eyelashes and heavy makeup.

In a recent address at the church’s 72nd annual convention in August, Adeboye expressed disapproval of the.fashion trends among church workers.

He made it clear that such styles would no longer be tolerated on the RCCG altars.

The convention, themed “Heaven,” took place from August 5 to 11, 2024, at Redemption City in Mowe, Ogun State.
