The re-composed Ghanaian delegation to the Community Parliament would be sworn in at the upcoming Extraordinary Session to be held in Port Harcourt, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Ghana has re-composed its delegation list after its 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The new members are George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, incoming leader of delegation, Dr. Eric Afful member, Dr. Bryan Acheampong member, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi member, Dominic Napare member and Millicent Yeboah Amankwah observer.
And continuing members of the delegation include Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin 3rd deputy speaker member, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah member and Laadi Ayii Ayamba member.
In an interview with George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan he pointed out that the House approved the re-composed delegation lists before the end of the second meeting of the first session of the ninth parliament and as incoming leader of the delegation he is looking forward to their swearing in.
Again, Ghana as a member of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and looking at the important role it plays in the sub-region, they would represent the interest of Ghanaians in the Parliament.
He however pointed out that the sub-region has a lot of challenges it needs to address in the area of governance. Military interventions have led to strain relations leading to the breakaway of three member states (Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger) and believes the Authority of Heads of States are working very hard to address “so that we can move along as one Community and have economic benefits. We need to have a stable parliament and democracy that is when you reap the benefit of economic development. As the incoming head of delegation, I carry the sentiment of Ghanaians and instructions given by leadership of the Ghanaian Parliament headed by the Rt. Hon Speaker”.
He further noted that when sworn in, he would fully participate in the activities of the Community Parliament and ensure that the team he leads brings on board their best performance to depict Ghana as most sub-regional member states know Ghana to be.
“We are leaders and we are up and doing, we want a strong ECOWAS; when you have a strong sub-region you have a strong African continent”, he emphasised.
