The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has pledged support for victims of the fire disasters that struck Afriland Towers and Emab Plaza in Lagos on September 16.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the chairman of the association, Kunle Ahmed, said the insurance industry was saddened by the loss of lives and property. He explained that some member companies of the NIA provided coverage for the affected buildings and would take responsibility for valid claims.
According to him, all policyholders with active insurance plans will receive compensation from their respective insurers to aid recovery from the tragedy. He stressed that the industry remains committed to helping individuals, families, and businesses get back on their feet in times of crisis.
Ahmed also encouraged more people and business owners to adopt insurance as a safeguard against unexpected events, noting that disasters such as fire outbreaks often leave lasting damage when assets are not protected.
The fire incidents, which left behind destruction and sorrow, have once again drawn attention to the need for effective risk management tools in Nigeria’s business and residential spaces.
