
Three suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly killing two victims after collecting ransom payments totaling N10.4 million.
The suspects, aged between 20 and 25, were tracked down following a distress call about the abduction of Humphrey Wagbara in Igwuruta-Atali, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. Operatives from the Anti-Cultism Unit carried out the operation in Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre LGAs, leading to their capture.
According to the police, the suspects admitted to being behind several kidnappings in Port Harcourt and surrounding areas. They confessed to abducting Onwuli Jude and Nwabueze Nchekwube on September 24, 2025, collecting N6.9 million before killing Nchekwube. They also kidnapped Mercy Chinyere on September 12, releasing her after receiving N3.5 million.
Items recovered from the suspects included a G-3 rifle, a magazine, three daggers, a jack knife, a stainless short knife, and a phone belonging to one of their victims. The police confirmed that the arrested men are in custody while efforts are ongoing to track other members of the gang.
State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, praised the officers involved in the operation and urged residents to report any suspicious activity to aid further investigations.
