President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu were formally received by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, marking the start of a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
The arrival ceremony, which featured a 42-gun salute by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, underscored the significance of the visit. The royal and Nigerian flags lined the streets of Windsor town as the presidential convoy arrived at the historic castle.
Details of the reception were shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Dada Olusegun, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media. According to his posts, the President and First Lady were presented to the royal family by The Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Catherine.
“King Charles and Queen Camilla officially received President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu at Windsor Castle,” Mr. Olusegun wrote. “They were treated to a 42-gun salute by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.”
The visit is expected to focus on fostering new partnerships between the two nations, with discussions anticipated to lead to the signing of several memoranda of understanding.
The first day of the state visit will culminate in a formal state banquet on Wednesday evening at St George’s Hall within the castle grounds. The event will be attended by King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales.
