In a significant development, a team of 23 Russian engineers from the original builders of the Ajaokuta Steel Company (TPE) arrived on Monday, August 12, 2024, to conduct a physical equipment audit of the largest steel company in Africa.
The team, led by experts from Russia, is working closely with local engineers to assess the current state of the equipment and facilities at the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL). The audit is a crucial step towards the completion of the company, which has been in limbo for several decades.
According to sources, the Russian team has already visited several units, including the thermal power plant, light mills section, and oxygen plant, among others. The audit is expected to identify areas where analog equipment needs to be replaced with digital ones for more effective operations.
The Sole Administrator of ASCL expressed appreciation for the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Steel Development, and other stakeholders in revitalizing the company. “We want to sincerely appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of Steel Development, and The Sole Administrator for their steadfastness towards revitalizing the company. God bless Asiwaju for this great initiative. Nigeria forward ever. God bless the Federal Republic.”
The revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Company is seen as a significant boost to Nigeria’s economy and industrialization efforts. The company has the potential to create thousands of jobs and stimulate economic growth in the region.
The Russian team’s expertise and involvement are expected to bring a new lease of life to the company, which has been struggling to operate at full capacity due to outdated equipment and lack of investment.
As the audit continues, Nigerians are eagerly awaiting the completion of the Ajaokuta Steel Company, which is expected to be a game-changer for the country’s industrial sector.
