Sahel States Unveil New Federation Flag, Pledges Deeper Integration
The Alliance of Sahel States (AES), comprising Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, has officially launched its new federation flag, marking a watershed in the regional bloc’s integration journey.
The AES member states, who recently withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), have been making rapid strides in fostering regional cooperation.
Recall that the block had recently introduced a joint AES passport to facilitate the free movement of people and goods within the region.
Furthermore, the AES plans to establish a single currency, which is expected to bolster economic integration and cooperation among member states.
In the realm of regional security, the AES has established a joint task force comprising 5,000 troops to combat terrorism in the region.
The AES’s integration efforts are driven by a desire to promote self-reliance and sovereignty in the region. By pooling their resources and expertise, the AES member states aim to tackle common challenges and create a more stable and prosperous region.
