Abuja, Nigeria — In a move expected to reshape Nigeria’s extractive governance landscape, Hon. Sarki Musa Adar yesterday officially assumed office as the new Executive Director of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NIETI).
Arriving at the agency’s Abuja headquarters to a rousing welcome from management and staff, Adar declared that his administration would champion transparency, deepen accountability, and strengthen the extractive sector’s contribution to national development.
Summit Post senior correspondent Mr Aaron Mike Odeh reported that; frontline figures in the extractive industry have hailed his appointment as timely, describing the former lawmaker and seasoned administrator as “a tested reformer with the capacity to deliver under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
During the formal handover ceremony, Adar reaffirmed NIETI’s statutory mandate and promised to realign its operations with global best practices.
> “We are entering a new phase. My focus is to elevate NIETI’s role as a guardian of transparency, curb revenue leakages, and rebuild trust across the oil, gas, and solid minerals sectors,” he stated.
Adar, who previously served as Chairman of NIWA and represented Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency for several years, emphasized that collaboration with operators, civil society, oversight institutions, and development partners would form the backbone of his leadership approach.
Staff of the agency expressed optimism that his wealth of experience in legislation, governance, and public-sector reforms will propel NIETI to higher operational efficiency.
Stakeholders nationwide will be watching closely as the new Executive Director takes the reins, with expectations high that his tenure will usher in stronger transparency frameworks and renewed investor confidence across Nigeria’s extractive industries.
