At least four children lost their lives and many others are feared trapped after the roof of a government school building collapsed in Rajasthan’s Sanchore district on Friday morning.
The tragic incident took place at the Piplodi Government School around 8:30 am, when classes were underway.
Local media outlets, including NDTV and the Indian Express, reported that approximately 40 children, along with several teachers and staff, were present inside the one-story building when its roof suddenly gave way.
Rescue efforts began shortly after the collapse, with emergency teams and local residents rushing to help.
Images from the scene showed people forming human chains and clearing debris with bare hands as part of the rescue operation.
Officials confirmed that 32 students had been rescued so far. Out of them, 17 are currently receiving medical treatment for injuries.
Rescue teams continue to search through the rubble, fearing that more individuals may still be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
The state’s Chief Minister expressed concern over the situation, instructing authorities to provide medical help to the injured and support to the families affected.
The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined. However, questions are being raised about the structural safety of school buildings in the region.
Investigations are expected to follow once rescue efforts are completed.
The incident has caused deep shock in the community, with parents and locals gathering around the site throughout the day.
Many are awaiting news about their children as the rescue mission continues into the evening.
