In a distressing incident early Monday, gunmen suspected of being kidnappers killed a soldier assigned to safeguard a construction site in Ogaminana, within Kogi State’s Adavi local government area.
According to a source speaking to SummitpostNews, the assailants launched an attack on the site, forcibly taking a Chinese worker and fleeing the scene.
It was reported that the kidnappers abandoned their vehicle near the Radio Kogi Booster station at Otite, just a short distance from where the abduction occurred.
A joint force of military personnel, police, hunters, and vigilantes pursued the perpetrators, which led to the release of the abducted individual.
“The task force is diligently scouring the nearby bushlands in search of the criminals,” the source revealed.
Though the soldiers on duty attempted to repel the attackers, they were ultimately outnumbered. There is an urgent need for more security personnel to be deployed to this area and other hotspots.
SP William Ovye Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kogi State, indicated that he is awaiting further details from the Divisional Police Officer responsible for the region.
