Distinguished Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has extended warm congratulations to renowned Nigerian poet and spoken word artist, Ms. Maryam Bukar Hassan, also known as Alhanislam, on her appointment as the United Nations Global Advocate for Peace.
In a personal message shared on his official X account, the former Governor of Sokoto State and former Speaker of the House of Representatives described the appointment as a moment of immense pride for Nigeria and a recognition of the power of words to inspire healing, foster unity and drive transformation.
Senator Tambuwal praised Maryam’s journey as one defined by courage and conviction. He noted that through her poetry and performances, she has carried messages of hope to the hearts of many, especially young people across the country and beyond. According to him, her art has always served a deeper purpose.
“Her spoken word has never been about performance alone. It has been a call to conscience and a bridge across the many divides that challenge our society,” he wrote.
He described her appointment by the United Nations as a well-earned honour that reflects her consistency, integrity and devotion to the cause of peace. Tambuwal added that at a time when the world is often defined by conflict and misunderstanding, Maryam stands out as a reminder that dialogue, empathy and understanding are still powerful tools for change.
He further stated that her voice carries meaning, purpose and the promise of a better future, and expressed full confidence in her ability to serve with distinction.
“As she takes on this new global responsibility, I have no doubt that she will continue to make our nation proud. Nigeria is blessed with voices like hers, and the world is better for listening,” he said.
Tambuwal wished Maryam continued strength and success as she steps into the new role, calling her a shining light for the country and a beacon of hope for generations to come.
